The Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance is pleased to announce the appointment of Lucy Turner as Managing Director.
Lucy previously served as Programme Director of the Cancer Alliance between January and November 2019.
She succeeds Simon Cox, who joined the Cancer Alliance at the beginning of this year. Simon was recently appointed as Director of the East Riding of Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership.
Lucy will join from York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where she is currently working as the trust’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer.
Previously Lucy was General Manager for the Oncology Clinical Service Unit at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust and worked at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for 12 years in a variety of operational and corporate performance roles.
Commenting on her return to the Cancer Alliance, Lucy said: “I am excited to be returning to the Cancer Alliance as Managing Director. Cancer services are under a great deal of pressure across our region as well as the rest of the country and I’m looking forward to working with the core Cancer Alliance project team as well as colleagues across the regional health and care system to address the issues affecting our cancer patients in Humber and North Yorkshire.
“While there are many challenges to address, particularly around cancer waiting times, there are many exciting projects being delivered to help improve earlier diagnosis and outcomes for cancer patients in our region.”
Phil Mettam, Senior Responsible Officer for the Cancer Alliance, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lucy back to the Cancer Alliance. Lucy will play a crucial role in bringing together the organisations which commission and provide cancer services to improve outcomes for cancer patients in Humber and North Yorkshire.
“I want to place on record our thanks to Simon for his leadership over the last year, and everyone at the Cancer Alliance wishes him well in his new role as place director at East Riding of Yorkshire. The Cancer Alliance’s mission remains to work with our partners to transform the diagnosis, treatment and care of cancer patients in the Humber and North Yorkshire area.”
Simon Cox added: “I wish Lucy well in her new post as Cancer Alliance Managing Director. I have enjoyed my time with the Cancer Alliance – I want to thank colleagues and partners for their support and contributions during the time I have been in post.”
Lucy is expected to join the Cancer Alliance in an official capacity in January 2023. Until then she will be continuing in her Deputy Chief Operating Officer role at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
