Train the Trainer

Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance offers the Train the Trainer programme as support to individuals who wish to train others to become Cancer Champions.

Cancer Champions are individuals who are trained to recognise the early signs and symptoms of the disease. They are equipped with the knowledge needed to raise awareness about cancer, and engage in conversations that could help to reduce the risk of cancer.

Ultimately, Cancer Champions encourage early diagnosis (in stage one or stage two), when it is often easier to treat and has a higher likelihood of being successful.

Why Cancer Champions are important

Cancer Champions are equipped with the knowledge needed to raise awareness about cancer, engage in conversations that could help to reduce the risk of cancer and encourage early diagnosis of cancer.

Cancer Champions are individuals who have been trained to recognise the early signs and symptoms of cancer. Spotting cancer early increases the chances of a better outcome.

We want to increase the amount of Cancer Champions in Humber and North Yorkshire, and providing people with the skills to train others will help us achieve this.

“If I hadn’t done the Cancer Champions training, where would I be? Learning about cancer saved my life.”

Sharon Hornsby, a Contact Officer with Humberside Police, received treatment for early-stage breast cancer after a free awareness session prompted her to book an appointment with her GP.

We recommend that those interested in becoming trainers attend the Cancer Champions training before attending the trainer’s session. This will equip you with the background knowledge surrounding the different types of cancers and signs to look out for.
