More than 200 people attended Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance’s 2025 annual conference – which took place on Thursday, 25 September at the University of Hull.
People working or involved in cancer services gathered to celebrate the work taking place across the Humber and North Yorkshire region to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and care of cancer patients.
In the morning Andrew Prudames, Deputy Director of Delivery, National Cancer Programme, NHS England, presented an overview of the national programme for cancer, including a look ahead to the eagerly-anticipated national 10-year plan for cancer, due to be published in the autumn.
In the afternoon, a thought-provoking keynote speech was delivered by Dr Mar Estupiñán Fernandez de Mesa, from the University of Surrey. Dr Estupiñán Fernandez de Mesa’s work focuses on cancer inequalities in care, research, and policy, with many publications in the field.
The day also featured a number of breakout sessions on different topics: to collectively inform the development of a regional long-term plan for cancer; implementing the ACCEND framework; pathway improvements across the region to improve cancer care for patients; and exploring how personalised support before, during, and after cancer treatment can transform recovery.
As it did last year, the conference concluded by celebrating achievement with the Cancer Alliance’s Excellence in Cancer awards, with six different awards up for grabs: cancer research and innovation; inspiring clinical leadership; championing the patient voice; outstanding care; commitment to equality; and collaborating about cancer.
Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to attend and contribute to another successful HNY Cancer Alliance annual conference.
