The Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance has delivered cancer screening information talks to over 100 students at CU Scarborough.

Emma Lewin, Volunteer Coordinator for the Cancer Alliance, delivers the Alliance’s Cancer Champions awareness raising training. She delivered the talks as part of the 2022 CU Scarborough Health Conference, which gives students an insight into careers within Health and Social Care.

Commenting on the event Emma said: “It was a privilege for the Cancer Alliance to be invited to be part of such an important event. It was a great opportunity to speak to young people who are interested in a career in the health and social care sector. There’s never been a more important time to encourage young people to take up health and social care professions.

Emma added: “Cancer affects hundreds of thousands of people in the UK alone each year. However, many cases could be prevented with better awareness and lifestyle changes. By raising awareness of not only the simple changes people can make to reduce their risk of developing cancer, but also the signs and symptoms to look for and the importance of screening, the Cancer Alliance can make a difference to many people’s lives. We hope that as well as learning about career opportunities, the students will also be able to take this information away and share with their families and friends.”

Cancer Champions Training

The Cancer Alliance’s Cancer Champions training offers free cancer awareness training sessions. The training teaches people about the key facts, statistics, symptoms, and screenings linked to a number of cancers. A number of Cancer Champions training sessions are available to sign up to every month.
