On Thursday, 17 September, 200 people attended Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance’s 2026 annual conference, which took place at Sewell Group Craven Park Stadium in Hull.
People who work or are involved in cancer services across the region came together to celebrate and discuss their work to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and care of cancer patients.
After a welcome speech from Jason Stamp, Chair of Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, our Deputy Managing Director, Laura Milburn, delivered a round-up of the Cancer Alliance’s 2025/26 achievements.
Next, Andrew Prudames, Deputy Director of Delivery, National Cancer Programme, NHS England, presented an overview of the national programme for cancer. This was followed by Cheryl Tackie, Chair of NHS England’s Cancer Patient and Public Forum. She discussed how working with people with lived experience can improve Humber and North Yorkshire cancer services.
Following a panel Q&A, there were breakout sessions from guest speakers on health literacy, neighbourhood health, deaf awareness, health and wellbeing information, genomics and the cancer incentive scheme.
After lunch in the afternoon, delegates heard the keynote speech from Scott Crosby, Associate Director for the Humber and North Yorkshire Centre for Excellence in Tobacco Control. Scott talked about the prevention promise we make to future generations.
For the third year in a row, the conference ended with a celebration of achievements. There were three award categories this year: Championing the Patient Voice, Better Together (Collaboration) and Outstanding Contribution to Patient Care.
